A Skewed View

A Skewed View

Once, I had occasion to stop for gas. At the time, a war was raging in Eretz Yisrael.  A huge television screen demonstrated, in full color, exactly what was happening in the Holy Land. Needless to say, I did not lift my eyes toward the screen. But, to my chagrin, from the corner of my eye, I noticed the female news reporter. I immediately turned away so that I should not stumble in forbidden sights.

A month passed. One day, in the midst of praying Shemoneh Esrei, the image of this woman popped into my mind. It disturbed my concentration.

One must beware of forbidden sights. Even a casual or accidental sighting can have serious repercussions. During a time of kedushah, they can come before our eyes and spoil our Avodat Hashem.
