Happy to Do His Bidding
A woman once approached me and said, “Honored Rav, I came to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Since I accepted the Rav’s suggestions to dress with tzeniut and wear a proper hair-covering, there is no one happier than I am. Observing the halachot of taharat hamishpachah have also caused me tremendous joy. I have simply become transformed in the merit of the mitzvot I have begun to keep. I am a happy, satisfied person! I walk around my house, humming to myself. How lucky I am to be a Jewish woman. My husband also noticed the transformation which has taken place in me. He is also grateful for this turnabout. Thank you!”
I was only too happy to hear this wonderful narrative. It was heartening to hear how mitzvah observance influenced this woman’s spirit in such a positive way. This is the fulfillment of David Hamelech’s words (Tehillim 19:8), “The Torah of Hashem is perfect, restoring the soul; the testimony of Hashem is trustworthy, making the simple one wise.”
