When There’s Room in the Home, There’s Room in the Heart

When There’s Room in the Home, There’s Room in the Heart

An extremely wealthy woman approached me with nothing but grievances toward G-d. After she somewhat calmed down from her litany of complaints, I asked her, “Did you forget that just this past year, you purchased a beautiful, large home, which was even written about in the papers?

“Certainly,” she replied.

I plowed on. “Did you remember to thank Hashem for it? He endowed you with the means with which to acquire the most beautiful house in the entire country! Instead of remembering His goodness and thanking Him, you choose to gripe and grumble about how He treats you. In truth, any difficulty you are experiencing is merely a wake-up call to remind you how much you have to be grateful for!”

The woman agreed with my words. I ended by saying, “Now that you understand the source of your suffering, return to Him in teshuvah for forgetting to appreciate all the good He has done for you. Do this by means of strengthening your mitzvah observance. Your problems will be a thing of the past.”
