The Truth Is Recognizable

The Truth Is Recognizable

I once shared with a distinguished Jew something wonderful that I had heard. I thought that he, too, would be moved by the narrative. To my surprise, he was not impressed in the least.

I was stunned. How could this man remain impassive, displaying not a hint of excitement, after hearing such a touching story?

After some time, I found out that the story I had related to him was a complete fabrication. Now I understood, in retrospect, why the man had not been enthused by it.

This incident taught me a tremendous lesson. When a true narrative is related, it has the power to impact the listeners and leave them with a lasting positive impression. But an invented story does not impress its listeners at all.
