Peace Draws Down the Shechinah

Peace Draws Down the Shechinah

A man once asked me, “How can I know if the Shechinah is resting in my home?”

“It all depends on your relationship with your wife,” I replied. “When one lives peacefully and lovingly with his wife, concerning himself for her needs, the Shechinah rests among them. But if the fire of strife rages in their home, it drives away the Shechinah from their midst.”

Rabbi Akiva says (Sotah 17a), “If man and woman merit, the Shechinah rests among them. If not, a fire consumes them.”
