New and Improved
In Adar 2000, Mr. Tzvi was working in his store when he had a sudden heart attack. An ambulance was immediately summoned, and paramedics began working on him. But it looked like his heart refused to continue beating. He was nearly pronounced dead. But the members of Hatzalah do not give up so easily. They tried as best as they could to revive him. They shocked him with nine electric shocks, but were met with a heart of stone. The doctor turned to Mr. Tzvi’s wife and suggested she contact the chevrah kadisha.
Mr. Tzvi was rushed to the hospital in one final effort to restore his life. In the ambulance, apart from his heart attack, he suffered a stroke, which only complicated his condition. In the hospital, he was left in the emergency room, not even rushed into intensive care. Even in the ER, he did not receive medical care. He was given up for gone.
Meanwhile, his family was not giving up so fast. They called me up to receive my blessing for a refuah sheleimah for Tzvi ben Chana. I sent them a letter delineating which matters needed to be corrected in order to grant him the merit for recovery. This letter provided his family with encouragement that, with Hashem’s help, there would be improvement in his condition.
After two hours, Mr. Tzvi’s heart began returning to life. The doctors, who had already given up on him, were worried about brain damage. But there was none. Slowly, he began moving his body, until he opened his eyes and showed he clearly recognized everybody present. He started speaking and became more alert from one minute to the next.
When the doctors saw this, they were amazed. “We have encountered many medical miracles, but a miracle like this is beyond description. The man came back from the dead.”
