Covering All Bases

Covering All Bases

A woman named Devorah once related to me a dream which repeated itself on the eve of Yom Kippur. In the first dream, her tooth fell out, and then she was notified that her aunt was destined to die very soon. In the second dream, she was notified that her uncle would die after Yom Kippur.

The agitated woman turned to me and asked what she could do about her strange dreams.

I replied that her dreams were Divine messages that she should do teshuvah. She should correct two areas of her life. The first was to start covering her hair, and the second was to replace her immodest clothing with that befitting a Jewish daughter.

The woman looked at me in puzzlement. What was the connection between her visions and my instructions? I told her to open a sefer Tehillim at random.

Devorah did as I told her. She opened to Psalm 83, which relates Yael’s killing of Sisera, in the time of Devorah the Prophetess. There we find the pasuk (83:10), “Do to them as to Midian, as to Sisera and as to Yavin at Kishon Brook.” The Midrash states that when Sisera would bathe in the Kishon Brook, he would catch numerous small fish in his wild hair.

The woman Devorah immediately saw the connection. She became extremely excited and promised to cover her hair from then on.

This woman merited Heavenly signals in the form of dreams, which were actualized to their finest detail. After Yom Kippur, both her aunt and uncle passed on. The incidents brought her to do teshuvah. She had been directed by Heaven to see the direct connection between the pesukim and her personal life, strengthening her bond with her Creator.
