The Power of a Parent’s Prayer
When my daughter was approximately one year old, she was in need of an operation. It went smoothly, and the recovery process was quick. The day after surgery, she was discharged. But only a few hours after she returned home, my wife and I saw that her face had become distorted beyond recognition. We were filled with great dread and rushed her back to the hospital.
The doctors took one look at her and woke up the surgeon in the middle of the night, to hurry back to the hospital. My daughter was rushed back into the operating room. We hadn’t even finished filling out the forms when the doctors operated on her a second time.
My wife and I were left to wait outside the room. We realized that our dear daughter was in grave danger. We knew that no mortal, not even the top specialist, could save our daughter. She was only in Hashem’s hands.
We prayed like we never prayed before, the pure prayer of parents for their child. We asked Hashem to send her a complete recovery very soon. Additionally, we undertook various resolutions to reinforce ourselves in matters of sanctity. We were prepared to do anything for our daughter’s recovery.
With great Heavenly mercy, our daughter emerged safely and fully recovered. And I merited feeling, for the very first time, the meaning of true, genuine prayer, offered from the depths of one’s heart, as well as the definition of doing complete teshuvah.
