Steering into Supplication
Another awe-inspiring story happened to our family doctor, Dr. Bismuth, a man of great faith in Hashem. He has taught me that in every circumstance, one must turn to Hashem like a son who turns to his merciful father. In this manner, all of our needs are met.
One day, I called him urgently, asking him to make a house call for a family member who was seriously sick. It is very difficult to find a parking spot near my house. Often, people who visit have to park some distance away and walk the rest of the way. Dr. Bismuth was aware of this situation. As he made his way over, he thought that all the parking places near my house would be taken, as they usually are. He assumed that he would park far away and then rush by foot to tend to the patient. But then he offered a prayer that in the merit of Rabbi Chaim Pinto, he would quickly find a spot nearby, as he was on his way to help Rabbi Chaim’s grandson.
Before he even finished his prayer, he felt Divine intervention at play. As he neared my home, he noticed a fellow enter his car and drive off. He eased his car into the spot and made his way to my front door.
When he related this incident, I remarked, “When you were praying, it was obviously an auspicious time in Heaven. What a shame that you didn’t ask for everyone to repent and merit the coming of Mashiach!” He mentioned that whenever he comes to help one of my family members, he prays for a parking spot and his prayers are answered.
This is not surprising. Dr. Bismuth asks for Hashem’s help in the merit of the tzaddikim for the sake of doing acts of chessed with fellow Jews. Certainly, he received Diving help in this endeavor.
