Operating with Faith

Operating with Faith

As we ascended to the grave of Rabbi Chaim Pinto, during the hilula ceremony, we saw a woman standing off to the side, crying bitterly. She asked that in the merit of the tzaddik, her sick husband should not need an operation.

Those nearby, hearing the details of her story, tried reassuring her that the upcoming operation was not complex. It was a routine surgery, which did not pose any cause for concern.

But the woman would not be consoled. “I came all the way here in order to pray at this grave that my husband should not need the operation at all!”

Indeed, a few days later, the doctors informed her that her husband’s blood pressure had improved dramatically, and he seemed to be recuperating without the need for an operation.

When I heard this, I turned to those around me, and said, “Look at this simple woman. See how the power of her faith and her prayers were effective in annulling the harsh decree against her husband. She was able to obtain his complete recovery, in the merit of the tzaddik. Just as she believed, so was she redeemed.”
