Modesty – A Prospect of Pride
A non-observant woman once told me that she had dreamed a bad dream and was warned to be stringent in matters of tzeniut. I further inspired her with words of our Sages regarding the advantages of tzeniut, a most appropriate virtue for the Jewish daughter. I encouraged her to dress in a more modest fashion.
At first, it was difficult for her to accept my instructions. She had to turn her entire life upside-down. Moreover, she was terribly ashamed of how her family and friends would perceive her. They would surely make a mockery of her newfound fashion statements. She would be the laughing stock of the entire neighborhood.
But after much persuasion, my words found their mark in her heart and she accepted the undiluted truth of our holy Torah. Today, she observes all mitzvot, easy and difficult alike, with her covered head held high and proud.
The Yetzer Hatov can overpower the Yetzer Hara. The battle is not easy, but definitely possible to win.
