Faith – Icon of our Nation
In the year 2000, I spent time with my daughter at the hospital, as she had to undergo surgery. Various pictures framed the walls. One work clearly depicted a cross, the iconic symbol of idolatry. At first, I cringed at the sight. But then I had a deeper understanding as to what this symbol conveyed. It actually transmitted the message that (Tehillim 115:5-7), “They have a mouth but cannot speak; they have eyes, but cannot see; they have ears, but cannot hear; they have a nose but cannot smell. Their hands – they cannot feel; their feet – they cannot walk; they cannot utter a sound.” The gods of the gentiles are mere statues of stone, incapable of delivering their deifiers.
The blessing “…that He has not made me a gentile” burst forth from my lips. I was grateful that Hashem created me a Jew. The nations bow to nothingness. We, on the other hand, worship the Creator of Heaven and Earth, Whose glory fills the world and is the only truth.
