Burning with Thanks
Many people have shared their tales of miracles with us. In response, they have asked how they can repay Hashem for the wonderful miracles He did for them.
Here are two examples:
A woman from the States lives in a forty-story building. With her own eyes, she witnessed a small airplane crash into her building. One of her windows was smashed from the impact, and both pilots died on the spot. The airplane became a burnt hunk of metal, leaving destruction all around.
The woman miraculously escaped with minor burns. After seeing how great the tragedy was, she realized that she had experienced a miracle. Heaven had saved her from certain death.
She hurried to find out how she should thank Hashem for the wonderful kindness He had done for her.
The next story involves a Jewish man, who suddenly once woke up in the middle of the night. He decided, for some unknown reason, to take a very hot shower. Then he went back to sleep, wondering what led him to do this unusual act.
The next morning, he felt very unwell. A doctor was summoned to his home. The doctor pronounced that the previous night, this man had undergone a heart attack. The hot shower had saved his life. The hot water, together with the steam, released the blockage in his arteries, allowing his heart to return to normal.
This man, too, realized that he was the beneficiary of a miracle. He quickly asked how he could thank Hashem for being granted another chance to live.
I instructed both of these people, and many like them, as to how a Jew expresses his appreciation to Hashem for His untold kindnesses. It is by increasing Torah study, mitzvah performance, and devoting oneself to kindliness, which are all the fulfillment of Hashem’s will.
