A Charitable Dream
Mr. Marciano of Paris is always supportive of Torah institutions. He contributes to their upkeep most generously. He told me that the night before the hilula of my holy grandfather, Rabbi Chaim Pinto, zy”a, this tzaddik appeared to him in a dream and reproached him with the following:
“It is not enough that you have not visited my grandson in a very long time, but you have the audacity to participate in the hilula feasts, which cost approximately fifty euro a portion?! Not only do you eat for free, but you leave without contributing anything to the Torah institutes. Go to my grandson, Rabbi David, who is at this-and-this address, where he is delivering Torah shiurim, and offer him a generous donation.”
The first thought that went through Mr. Marciano’s mind upon awakening was that the dream had no meaning. But, on second thought, he decided to call up his friend and confirm whether or not I was actually where the tzaddik had said. To his surprise, I was.
Mr. Marciano hurried to fulfill the command of the tzaddik and joined in the lecture I was delivering, in memory of a righteous woman who had passed on. After the shiur, he hastened to execute the second order, donating charitably toward our institutions.
