Enveloped in Holiness
I heard the following story about my father, zy”a, from an eyewitness. It inspired me tremendously. Mr. Lugassi once approached my father and pleaded with him to bless him with an easy, lucrative livelihood. Father instructed him to go to a specific spot. There, he would find an envelope of money. The person who originally lost this money had already despaired of finding it. Therefore, Mr. Lugassi was free to take it.
Father had remained secluded in his house for decades. How did he know about this envelope? It was his tremendous level of sanctity which gave him the far-sightedness to see what was happening in another location.
Mr. Lugassi took Father’s advice and went where he was directed. Exactly as Father had said, he found an envelope bursting with bills, which helped pull him out of his predicament.

I was very moved by this tale. Father himself was not blessed with an overabundance of money. Nevertheless, he put others’ needs before his own. The thought of taking the envelope for himself never entered his mind.
There is no doubt that tzaddikim are blessed with far-reaching vision due to their Torah study. This allows them to see into the future and help out their fellow Jews in distress.
