Furnished in Jewish Style

Furnished in Jewish Style

I once visited a wealthy individual in Brazil. His house was furnished in grand style, equipped with every modern appliance on the market. His sitting room was spacious, with a massive library standing proudly against one wall. I asked my host to lend me a Sefer Tehillim. He searched all over. In the entire edifice, he could not find one Tehillim. Woe to such shame!

How could a person furnish a home with every conceivable luxury, including chandeliers of pure crystal, air-conditioning systems, beautiful furniture, electronic appliances, etc., yet not make sure to have a basic sefer kodesh like a Tehillim?!

I rebuked the man for this and explained that a siddur and a Tehillim are basic articles in every Jewish home. They are what connect us with our Creator and should therefore be the first and foremost furnishings of our homes.
