Far-sighted Vision

Far-sighted Vision

It was on the anniversary of the death of Harav Shach, zt”l, that two wealthy individuals informed me that they intended to establish an educational institution. They asked that I bless their endeavor. In general, I am quite generous with my blessings. But, for some reason, I veered from the norm and asked, “Will your institution be run according to the Torah, or will Jewish children be taught secular subjects?”

The men became ashamed at my question and left the place in humiliation. They had not been planning to build their institution on the tenets of the Torah.

I have no doubt that what caused me to inquire about the place was the power of the merit of Maran Harav Shach, zt”l. Rav Shach was far-sighted. Before responding to any question, he would consider its ramifications, in their fine nuances. On the day of his death, his merit stood by me to prevent me from conferring a blessing upon something of a shady nature.
