To Learn It Is to Love It
A very prestigious gentile lawyer once told me that he was fascinated by the Jewish Bible. He had even begun studying the Talmud, as well as the Zohar and other holy works. He had acquired a number of sifrei kodesh dealing with Judaism which were translated into French. He was in the process of going through them when we met.
When he heard I was in town a different time, he came to me and asked, “Which sefarim does the rabbi recommend in order to advance my knowledge of Judaism? The Jewish Torah is very rich. Every self-respecting Christian must incorporate ideas about the Jews in his talks, because the world cannot exist without Jews!”
When I heard these words, I understood that he came to this conclusion through his study of Torah and Judaism. I realized that if a non-Jew could recognize the truth of Torah by studying Judaism and relevant sefarim, surely all Jews, whose neshamot are hewn from under the Heavenly Throne, can come to love Hashem and appreciate the eternity of Torah and Yisrael, if only they try.
