Called up to Heaven

Called up to Heaven

A wonderful man I know calls up his mother every day to ask after her well-being. He feels a tremendous sense of gratitude toward his parents for all they did for him and this is his way of showing his gratitude.

One day, this man had his regular phone conversation with his mother. He asked how she felt, how Shabbat had gone, etc. A few moments after hanging up, his phone rang. He was notified that his mother had suddenly died. The man was in a state of shock. Only a short time ago, he had spoken with his mother, and she said that she had felt fine. How did she suddenly die, with no prior warning?

Life in this world is temporary. Hashem lives within a person as long as his neshamah is alive. As soon as Hashem removes the neshamah, the person dies. As long as the neshamah is within the body, one can correct whatever needs improvement, through Torah and good deeds.
