Yosef’s Dream
During the hilula for Rabbi Chaim Pinto, zy”a, in Morocco, Rabbi David, shlita, had a dream. He was informed of various details regarding Eretz Yisrael and different events which would occur there.
He kept the matter to himself for the next few days. On the first day of Rosh Hashanah, he related the essence of his dream in his usual Yom Tov speech. He described a frightful scene of desecration at the grave of Yosef Hatzaddik in Shechem.
The people who heard him relate what would transpire at the grave of Yosef Hatzaddik in Eretz Yisrael were very surprised. They wondered why he had chosen Rosh Hashanah, of all times, to relate his dream. And why did he portend harsh decrees which would happen to our nation?
No one dared to question Rabbi David’s discretion. They decided to wait until after the holiday ended and then to clarify what exactly had happened to Yosef’s grave during Rosh Hashanah.
After the holiday, it became known that there had been Arab rioting at the site of Yosef’s grave on the holiday.
When people realized just how tragic this incident was, they realized why Rabbi David chose to relate it on Rosh Hashanah. He wished to motivate the people to do teshuvah, as well as invoke Heavenly mercy in the merit of Yosef Hatzaddik, saving Am Yisrael from their enemies all around.
