Delivered from Depression<\/strong><\/p>\n

While receiving people abroad, a couple walked into my room. The man opened the conversation. \u201cHonored Rav,\u201d he began, \u201cit is already twenty years that my wife has been in a depression. She refuses to receive any help and likewise does not speak to anyone about her inner feelings. This causes our family untold anguish.\u201d<\/p>\n

From outside my room, I heard the people in line talking among themselves. They often share stories, the idea being that sorrow shared is sorrow divided. But today, the voices that came wafting into my room were accounts of suicides. \u201cWhy are they discussing suicides now?\u201d I wondered to myself. \u201cIt must be a Heavenly message to me regarding this woman\u2019s thought process.\u201d<\/p>\n

I turned to the woman and asked, \u201cDo you know why you are in a depression?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

She remained silent.<\/p>\n

I pressed onward. \u201cDo you have a father?\u201d I inquired.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy father passed on,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid he pass on or did he commit suicide?\u201d I asked.<\/p>\n

The woman stared at me and began stuttering. Her husband asked, \u201cWhy are you stuttering?\u201d But she did not respond.<\/p>\n

\u201cDid your father die a natural death or did he commit suicide?\u201d I demanded.<\/p>\n

The man wanted to help his wife, so he spoke on her behalf. \u201cHer father did not commit suicide; he was killed.\u201d<\/p>\n

But I did not relent. I wanted to hear what she had to say. \u201cWas your father killed or did he commit suicide?\u2019 I further attempted.<\/p>\n

Finally, the woman burst into tears. Her husband asked why she was crying.<\/p>\n

As her dam burst, the woman stood up. \u201cThis is the reason for my prolonged depression since my father\u2019s death. After he died, I entered his room and found a note stating that he was fed up with life and was ending it. I kept the matter secret all these years, never telling it even to you, my husband. The police filed it as manslaughter. I was so ashamed!\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow everything is clear,\u201d I said. \u201cFor the past twenty years, you have been hiding a deep, dark secret. The matter has finally come to light, as the pasuk says (Kohelet<\/em> 12:13), \u2018At the end, all is heard.\u2019 May it be Hashem\u2019s will that this will be a turning point in your life. You should merit a complete recovery and become stronger in Torah, mitzvot, and yirat Shamayim<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Baruch Hashem<\/em>, this woman recovered from her depression and returned to her former state of joie de vivre.<\/p>\n

I learned that Hashem has many messengers. It was specifically the people waiting outside my room who enlightened me to this woman\u2019s problem and helped me cure her<\/em>.<\/p>\n
