A Suitable Blessing<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have connections with a wealthy philanthropist in Argentina. Throughout the years, he has helped our institutions most generously. Even when the financial market was hit by a depression, and his situation was unstable, he opened his heart and his pocket and bought all of the furniture for the Beit Hakeneset Hagadol in Ashdod. He did this act wholeheartedly, even though it left him penniless.<\/p>\n

    I wished to demonstrate gratitude to this man for all he had done for us, especially for extending us financial assistance when it was difficult for him. But I could not come up with any ideas.<\/p>\n

    One Shabbat, when I was staying at his home, I thanked him for his generosity, but he dismissed my words and added his own:<\/p>\n

    \u201cWhat is all my money worth if I have no children to bequeath it to? Now that I am suffering financial setbacks, I have neither money nor children. What is the point of living?\u201d<\/p>\n

    My daughter, who was with me at the time, felt this man\u2019s pain together with me. I so much wanted to help this distraught man, who had done so much for me. I finally thought of something. I offered him two of my suits, as well as two shirts, which I had brought with me from France. Then I asked him, \u201cDo you believe in a Creator?\u201d<\/p>\n

    \u201cOf course,\u201d he replied.<\/p>\n

    \u201cIn that case, I am leaving my clothes with you as a deposit until you are granted children. When I arrive at your son\u2019s brit<\/em>, I will not have to bring along clothing. I will wear these clothes which I am leaving with you.\u201d<\/p>\n

    I wished to inject a spirit of faith into his heart. I wanted him to fully realize that it is Hashem alone Who holds the key to life.<\/p>\n

    Additionally, I instructed him, \u201cFrom now on, begin observing Shabbat and taharat hamishpachah<\/em>. Store my clothing in a safe place, and B\u2019ezrat Hashem<\/em>, I will use them very soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

    The good Jew folded my clothing and said, \u201cHonored Rav, after so much waiting, I would like to ask for at least two children.\u201d<\/p>\n

    I understood that this man had simple, pure faith in his heart. I was sure his request would be accepted.<\/p>\n

    A month passed. One day, the man called me up and excitedly told me that his wife was expecting. They were anticipating the birth of twins.<\/p>\n

    When I flew to Argentina to act as sandek<\/em>, I did not pack any clothes, for my suits were safely guarded in the home of this precious Jew, waiting for me to put them on for the brit.<\/em><\/p>\n

    How great is the power of simple faith and mitzvah observance! They are capable of changing the course of nature and allow a Jew to have his dreams fulfilled.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n
