He wasn\u2019t happy; he was euphoric. Beaming broadly, he cried out, \u201cI won! I WON!\u201d Did he win the state lotto? Perhaps he won the big prize in some other raffle drawing?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReb Moshe,\u201d I asked, most curiously. \u201cWhat did you win?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor twenty years I have been trying to convince my neighbor to lay tefillin. But he constantly refused. Today, when I approached him with my usual request, he finally acquiesced!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what did you win?\u201d I pressed on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat did I win? The <em>zechut <\/em>of bringing merit to my neighbor!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Realizing how sweet Torah is, Reb Moshe wished to share it with others. He felt that all Jews are mutually responsible. By encouraging his neighbor to lay tefillin, he brought the merit of this mitzvah to another Jew.
