{"id":97932,"date":"2022-11-19T21:22:07","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T19:22:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rdpinto.org\/?p=97932"},"modified":"2022-11-19T21:22:07","modified_gmt":"2022-11-19T19:22:07","slug":"a-seeing-eye-and-a-hearing-ear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rdpinto.org\/en\/a-seeing-eye-and-a-hearing-ear\/","title":{"rendered":"A Seeing Eye and a Hearing Ear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A Seeing Eye and a Hearing Ear<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I was a young boy, I once came home from a friend\u2019s house. \u201cDavid,\u201d my father began, \u201cwhere were you these past few hours?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was visiting at so-and-so\u2019s home,\u201d I replied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd what did you do there?\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe reviewed the Torah lesson that we had learned this morning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The truth was, I hadn\u2019t been with my friend at all. I had been visiting my sister, where I spent the time playing checkers with her husband. When I was a kid, checkers was my favorite hobby. I have grown up since then and, today, my hobby is Torah study.<\/p>\n<p>My father must have known where I had spent my day, because he pressed further. He asked what we were studying, how far we had gotten, and similar questions. At some point, I realized that he knew the truth. My stories were getting me more and more tangled up, until I could no longer restrain myself.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFather,\u201d I cried in desperation. \u201cYou know exactly where I was these past few hours. Why, then, are you interrogating me like this?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With his great wisdom, my dear father replied, \u201cI just want to teach you not to be a wise guy with Hashem. If you sat and learned, you may say so.
