{"id":97930,"date":"2022-11-19T21:21:32","date_gmt":"2022-11-19T19:21:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rdpinto.org\/?p=97930"},"modified":"2022-11-19T21:21:32","modified_gmt":"2022-11-19T19:21:32","slug":"one-who-lies-shall-not-be-established-before-my-eyes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rdpinto.org\/en\/one-who-lies-shall-not-be-established-before-my-eyes\/","title":{"rendered":"One who lies shall not be established before my eyes\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>One who lies shall not be established before my eyes\u201d <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(<em>Tehillim<\/em> 101:7)<\/p>\n<p>Hashem\u2019s seal is truth (<em>Shabbat<\/em> 55a)<\/p>\n<p>Rava says that Yerushalayim was de<strong><em>&amp;\u201c<\/em><\/strong>stroyed because people stopped telling the truth (<em>Shabbat<\/em> 119b)<\/p>\n<p>Four groups will not receive the <em>Shechinah<\/em>\u2026 the group of liars\u2026 (<em>Sotah<\/em> 42a)<\/p>\n<p>Rabbi Elazar says<em>, <\/em>\u201cHe who speaks falsehood is akin to one who worships idols\u201d (<em>Sanhedrin<\/em> 92a)<\/p>\n<p>&gt;Rabbi Simon says: When Hakadosh Baruch Hu decided to create Adam Harishon, the angels were divided in their opinions. Some said Adam should not be created, while others said he should. This is what is meant by the pasuk, \u201cKindness and Truth have met; Righteousness and Peace have kissed.\u201d Kindness said that man should be created, for he will practice acts of kindness. Truth said that he should not be created, for he would be full of falsehood. Righteousness said he should be created, for he would do acts of righteousness. Peace said he should not be created, for he would cause dissention.<\/p>\n<p>What did Hashem do? He threw Truth to the ground, as it says, \u201cYou sent Truth earthward.\u201d The ministering angels then asked Hashem, \u201cWhy do You insult Your signet? Raise Truth from the ground.\u201d Thus, it says, \u201cTruth will grow from the ground.\u201d Our Sages say in the names of Rabbi Chanina bar Idi and Rabbi Pinchas, and Rabbi Chilkiya says in the name of Rabbi Simon, \u201cThe word \u05de\u05d0\u05d3 (very) refers to \u05d0\u05d3\u05dd (man). Therefore, it says, \u201cAnd Elokim saw all that He did and behold! It was very good.\u201d This means to say that man is good. Rabbi Huna said, \u201cWhile the angels were arguing, Hashem went ahead and created man\u201d (<em>Bereishit Rabbah<\/em> 8).<\/p>\n<p>Rav Baivi asks in the name of Rabbi Reuven, \u201cWhat is truth?\u201d Rabbi Shimon ben Lakish says, \u201cThe letter \u00a0\u05d0'is the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, the letter \u05de' is the middle letter, and the letter \u05ea' is the last letter. These letters spell the word \u05d0\u05de\u05ea (truth), Hashem\u2019s seal. Hashem says, \u2018I am first and I am last. I am not subservient to any other force, for I fill the entire world and have no duplicate\u2019\u201d (<em>Shemot Rabbah<\/em>, <em>Parashah<\/em> 4).<\/p>\n<p>Hashem\u2019s seal is truth, and the entire world endures because of this quality. At the beginning of Creation, we read \u05d1\u05e8\u05d0\u05e9\u05d9<strong>*\u05ea<\/strong>~ \u05d1\u05e8<strong>*\u05d0~<\/strong> \u05d0\u05dc\u05d5\u05e7\u05d9*<strong>\u05dd~<\/strong>, whose last letters spell \u05d0\u05de\u05ea. Creation ends with the words \u05d1\u05e8*<strong>\u05d0<\/strong>~ \u05d0\u05dc\u05d5\u05e7\u05d9*<strong>\u05dd<\/strong>~ \u05dc\u05e2\u05e9\u05d5*<strong>\u05ea<\/strong>~, whose last letters also spell \u05d0\u05de\u05ea. One who speaks falsely damages the entire world. Even if he deviates from the truth by a small amount, he causes untold damage. With the removal of just the letter \u05d0', the letter with the smallest numerical equivalent, the word \u05de\u05ea (dead) remains. In contrast, one who is scrupulous to speak only the truth upholds the world, which is based on truth.
